Hard Fought Game for U16 Ladies
Our Droichead Pointe Ladies met Saval on Sunday 18th August, in Mayobridge, to play their penultimate match, in the U16 A League.
The game got off to a lively start with Saval taking the first scores. Ten minutes into the game and the Blues were ahead by 2 points. The Blues exerted a constant pressure and added a further goal and 2 points to their first half score. Despite gaining these scores, the combination of a strong wind, driving rain and absence of Lady Luck, saw the Blues having 12 wides in the first half, a true indicator of the level of play they were actively involved in. First half score of 2-3 to 3-5 in Saval’s favour and not accurately reflective of Droichead Pointe’s efforts.
Both teams returned to drier conditions. Saval started the second half with the advantage. Droichead Pointe battled back heroically and answered Saval’s scores. The Blues gained ground, effective team -play, great defending and accurate score taking nudged Droichead Pointe ahead, taking the lead by 2 points.
Despite their relentless efforts, this was not to be Droichead Pointe’s day, when, just before the final whistle, Saval achieved 2 further scores, leaving the Blues disappointed adversaries. Final score 6-7 v 6-10, to Saval.
Well done to the Droichead Pointe girls, who never gave up and proved a tough and resilient opponent.
