Our Under 21s continued their season with an away fixture in Bryansford this past Sunday. After coming away with a win against Drumgath and a mid week challenge match the Warrenpoint Under 21’s headed into this game well organised and ready for the challenge of the young bryansford men.

The first half was dominated by the Warrenpoint side who held the Bryansford side to only one score in the opening 20 minutes of play, The Blues defence were strong and allowed little to get through. The tenacious tackling of Ruairi McGivern showed the character of the point side and saw one of the stand out performances for the away side, with a never say die attitude both on and off the ball.

Scores from Ruairi McCormack, Aaron Magee and a few frees from Anton Magill saw the Warrenpoint side cruise to a five point lead with only five minutes to go.

However a dip in concentration saw the Bryansford men grab a goal with only 2 minutes to go – Anton Magill converted a free on the stroke of half time to leave there only two between the sides.

The game was very much a tale of two halves and it was the Bryansford side who assumed complete control of the second half with a first minute penalty from the throw in which was converted by the home side – nearly saved by Ryan Haughey. From here though the Bryansford men dominated all aspects of play. And it was on 18 mins when the Bryansford men stretched their lead to nine points with another goal.

However with only ten minutes to go the Warrenpoint side woke up again and fought back strong with scores from Frank Aiken, Anton Magill and with 4 to go a stunning goal from Aaron Magee saw only four points in it. The Point side had three goal opportunities but the Bryansford men had flooded the goal mouth leaving little chance to break the net and it finished with a first defeat for the Cumann Pheadair Naofa side.

The Blues now go into the B side of the Under 21 Championship, fixture details to follow during the week.
