While The Patrick Dinsmore Memorial Cup slipped out of the Point lads grasp last Sunday the Joe Donnan Memorial cup was up for grabs today. The match got off to a slow start with both teams putting their best foot forward, the attacking calibre of the Rostrevor side was evident for all to see with wave after wave attacking opportunities coming at the Point defence, But today the point side put up a fantastic defensive display whilst being able to quickly turnover play and capitalise with score after score. The turning point in the 1st half came when Aaron Magee blasted the ball into the roof of the net to put the point side 1-07 to 0-03 ahead at the half time interval.

The 2nd half saw the same drive and determination from the Rostrevor side and they never backed down despite an onslaught of attacking brilliance from Donagh McAleenan converting point after point. Captain Miceal O Hare led from the back keeping the point side turning over play time after time and was a deserved man of the match.

Aaron Magee put the point further ahead with a super point off the side of his boot with 15 minutes to go, he then once again rattled the net with a super strike from outside the square. Immediately following the lockout Frank Aiken turned the ball over in midfield and combined with Ruairi McGivern to see frank convert a super score from play. With 5 minutes to go the on form Donagh McAleenan picked up the ball at the halfway line to pull out a brilliant show of excellence on the ball to secure the Point lads win with a super point.

The final score was 2-15 to 0-9 and helped end a terrific season by the Cumann Pheadair Naofa lads, a fantastic year all around with only 1 narrow defeat, a year to be proud of and with the Joe Donnan memorial cup heading to Moygannon it’s a perfect end to the year for this group of players who have a bright future ahead of them in the years to come.
