Well done to Adrian McNally and his U167 squad, for early on Saturday morning they travelled all the way up to south Derry for the Ulster U16 Hurling Blitz in Castledawson. After seeing last week’s minors loose narrowly in the final of Ulster Minor Blitz in Newry, the management were confident of a similarly good performance today in Castledawson, as last weeks’ minor team had several of today’s U16 squad on duty.

With Cumann Pheadaír Naofa having had two hard fought wins in the earlier stages, it was down to Brid Og & local team, Castledawson to battle it out for the final berth spot. Brid Og were 2 point victors, thus setting up a mouth-watering final with the blues. Brid Og got off to a storming start and hit Cumann Pheadaír Naofa with three early points. The blues held their composure with goals coming from Tiernan Kelly and Jack Houlahan to take a two-point lead. As the clock ticked towards the final few minutes, it was player of the tournament and county star, Tiernan Murphy who settled matters with the final three points and thus ensure a well-deserved five-point victory.
