Cumann Pheadair Naofa U16’s made the journey back to Dromore Co. Tyrone for the quarter final of the Paul McGirr Ulster Championship. After a good win over Monaghan champions Aughnamullen the blues would take on Antrim champions St Bridget’s.

The game started very even with the two teams keen not to give too much away in the early stages. After a number of wides the blues opened the scoring through Ruairí Kernan. The Antrim team replied quickly. The blues dominated possession but were sloppy surrendering the ball easily with poor passing and kicking a number of wides. Eoin Carr steadied the ship with two brilliant scores from midfield. St Bridget’s took their chances when they came drawing the game level before Korhee Hourican found space running up the wing and placing the ball over the bar.

Half time 0-4 to 0-3 to the blues.

Cumann Pheadair Naofa came out strong at the start of the second half after no doubt some strong words from the management team. Aaran McBurney scored two points to settle the team and take control of the game once again. Aaran then scored a goal from a long range free after a mix up in the back line of the Antrim men. St Bridget’s were far from finished and made the point lads work hard for the whole game with strong and physical tackling and taking any chances that came their way!

Eoin Carr scored another before st Bridget’s won a penalty which was cooly finished to pull the game back to three. St Bridget’s closed the gap to two before an Aaran McBurney free and a super point from Ruairí McCormack gave the blues the important 4 point cushion. St Bridget’s never stopped with a goal effort sailing over the bar before eoghan Byrne finished the scoring to give the super blues a four point win.

Final score 1-10 to 1-6.
