On Sunday 29 April, at the last moment, the U14 Ladies Cumann Pheadair Naofa vs Bryansford league game had to be moved to Moygannon, from Milltown, as the Milltown pitch was judged to be un-playable, after the recent wet weather.
On the larger pitch & against a decent Bryansford outfit, the girls knew that they were in for a testing afternoon. Bryansford started well and applied the early pressure but were unable to convert the pressure to points. Against the early run of the play, the Blues managed to break forward and get the first point on the board. The first score was quickly followed by a goal and further points, however Bryansford were certainly not out of it and fought back to claim a goal and a handful of points of their own, meaning just one point separated the teams at half time, in favour of the Blues.
The young Warrenpoint ladies upped the tempo in the second half and started to apply consistent pressure to the Bryansford defence, leading to a regular pattern of scoring, with only the occasional Bryansford attack. The constant hard work and ‘never-give-up’ attitude of the Blues led them to a comfortable 3-18 to 1-5 victory, come the final whistle.
The club, U14 ladies’ players and management team would like to wish Lia Rice all the best for a speedy recovery, following a wrist injury that she sustained during the warmup. Hope to see you back soon Lia! Upcoming Fixture: Castlewellan vs Cumann Pheadair Naofa 13 May 2018.
