Warrenpoint u14 ladies played out a gruelling championship semi-final today in Moygannon in what can only be described as horrendous conditions.
A fiercely contested game from the off, their opponents and near neighbours Burren, travelled to Warrenpoint with intent and showed exactly why our management and players were wary of the challenge they would bring. There was some fine interplay from both sides throughout the entire match and the meager 4 point advantage to Cumann Pheadair Naofa at half time on a score of 2.5 to 2.1 suggested the game was going to go down to the wire. The second half saw a deterioration in weather conditions and only sheer determination from both sides kept the contest from slipping into a match of dropped balls and missed tackles.
Eventually the Blues crept into a decent lead and despite a late rally from the ever-dangerous Burren, managed to hold on to claim a narrow win. Thanks to Burren for a tough encounter and well done to our girls on a well deserved win. Looking forward now to a championship final.
