The draw for the LGFA U14 Championship certainly didn’t do Warrenpoint any favours, pitting them against RGU Downpatrick, who won by a margin of 16 points the last time the sides met. However, the Blues were undaunted by this and went into the Championship Quarter Final on Sunday 9th September in Milltown full of confidence and determination.

Right from the throw-in the home side really took the match to the visitors and showed their determination to attack, taking the first couple of points of the game. The Blues had the bulk of the possession but were unable to convert this into the all-important scores, to reflect their early dominance. The visitors on the other hand, were more clinical and even though their time in possession was limited, almost every attack produced a score. The half time whistle saw the sides separated by just two points, in favour of the visitors.

The second half followed much the same pattern, with Warrenpoint getting good possession, but just not able to trouble the scoreboard. As the match wore on, Downpatrick’s physical style of play started to come to the fore. At one point, the Blues managed to get within a point of the league runners up, but that was as close as it got. A flurry of late scores from the visitors saw them run out winners by 0-9 to 1-11.

Considering the result, the last time the two sides met, the young ladies from Warrenpoint can be rightly proud of their efforts, despite the obvious disappointment at the result.
The management team of the U14 ladies are immensely proud to have had the pleasure of working with such a wonderful group of young ladies, throughout the season. We wish you all the very best for next season.

Special thanks are also extended to mentors Paula Howlett, Killian Quinn and Sarah-Jane Hughes, for all your hard work throughout the season. Your assistance, experience and guidance have been invaluable.
