Monday 15 May saw a win for Cumann Pheadair Naofa 7.13 v Shamrocks An Iur 0.05
On Monday evening the U14 footballers faced Newry Shamrocks at home, Knowing they needed to put in a good performance and get back to winning ways after last weeks disappointing encounter with Ballyholland.
The young blues did not disappoint, their first score coming after only two minutes, a well worked attack finished to the goal by C.Madden, set the tone for the rest of the match. Warrenpoint, despite building a decent lead by half-time, never got complacent, with each player doing his bit when called upon.
The second half started much as the first with Warrenpoint winning the throw in and moving the ball quickly up-field to J. Russell, who after a great solo run was unfortunate that his goal bound shot was deflected over for a point. The blues continued strongly, with good individual performances right across the team, indeed the substitutes introduced later in the game also performed very well.
The final score was 7.13 to 0.05, but this was not a true reflection of the spirited opposition put up by a young Shamrocks side. This was the last match of the first phase of the U14 league competition, our 4 wins and 2 defeats leaving us sitting in third position and we await confirmation as to the format of the competition as it continues and the opposition we will be facing in the coming weeks.
