The U13 hurlers travelled to the Monaghan centre of excellence early on Saturday morning for the launch of the Táin Óg league grading blitz, a brand-new initiative from Ulster GAA where by county and provincial borders are taken away enabling teams from Connaught, Leinster and Ulster to play in a league against teams of a similar ability. There was a total of thirteen teams from counties as far away as Leitrim, Sligo, Fermanagh and Longford.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the day was a Q&A session and a chance to get photos taken and hurls signed by some of Kilkenny’s greatest ever Hurlers, DJ Carey, David Herrity & Martin Fogarty, all of whom have won a total 22 All-Irelands between them as either player or coach.
Cumann Pheadaír Naofa in amalgamation with Clonduff sent down a team and although badly hit with local parish confirmations and injuries the blues played East Cavan Gaels, Contribret and Woodford. Not being able to play to their true potential, the Warrenpoint/Clonduff amalgamation will now await the grading outcome to see who their Táin Óg league opponents will be when the league starts on 21 May.
