Cumann Pheadaír Naofa 4-8 V Carryduff 3-1

The U12 hurlers finished off the league season for the year with another fine victory and in doing so they ended up in top spot of the league. Having played a much improved Carryduff sides last month the return fixture was cautiously approached as a potential banana skin. When Caolan freer opened the scoring with a fine goal and Liam O’Connor added a point within the first ten minutes the nerves of Managers Dermot & Chris were somewhat eased. Oran Murney increased the blues lead before the visitors got off the mark with a point from play. With Warrenpoint having lots of possession but just unable to convert them into scores the wides started to mount. Blues captain Liam once more steadied the ship with two fine frees and another from play to end the half seven points clear.

When the second half started Oran Murney slotted over a fine point from 30 metres out before Liam O’Connor banged in a fine individual goal. Darragh Austin added to the score sheet when he dropped a long distance free over the crossbar. The blues were well in control by this stage and the defensive unit were barely under any threat. With ten minutes left Connaire McMahon found himself alone on the edge of the square and he duly punished Carryduff with a goal. It was then that Carryduff switched their full back into the forward line and within the next four minutes he had struck for three goals as Carryduff suddenly sprang into life around the forward line. Thankfully for the blues Liam O’Connor popped over another free and another goal came from the stick of Matthew Duffy, an excellent angled shot from outside the 21yd line to finish off the scoring and thus ensure that the blues topped the division as champions!

Scorers: Liam O’Connor 1-5, Connaire McMahon 1-0, Matthew Duffy 1-0, Caolan Freer 1-0, Oran Murney 0-2, Darragh Austin 0-1
