On Sunday last our U12 footballers made the short journey to near neighbours Burren for their first league outing of the season.
Once again, the young blues were slow to start as the first 10 minutes of the game saw Burren race into a 4 points to 1 lead, mainly courteous of some outstanding long-distance shooting from the opposition.
The latter part of the first half saw the Warrenpoint lads step it up a gear with the attacking threat from midfield up causing the Burren team significant problems. In this crucial period of the game the blues were able to find the back of the net on three separate occasions as a result of some fantastic attacking football. The teams went into the interval with the scores at 3.04 to 0.05 in favour of Warrenpoint.
The second half saw Warrenpoint continue to play with great confidence, which enabled the young blues to extend their lead as a result of some strong tackling in defence and a forward unit that was in top form.
The game ended on a score line of 5.08 to 0.08 in favour of Warrenpoint. Our U12’s will take great encouragement from such a strong performance so early in the season.
