On Sunday 28th May the U8 & U10 players travelled to Dublin to play a number of challenge games against Clontarf GAA followed by a visit to Croke Park for lunch and a private tour of the stadium. We arrived at the playing fields in St. Anne’s Park Clontarf and played 6 challenge games at each age group – The young Blues acquitted themselves brilliantly in the Capital with great skill and purpose, they were a credit to the club.
Before leaving St. Anne’s park the players and mentors of both clubs enjoyed refreshments provided by the host club Clontarf, it was the perfect start to what turned out to be an amazing day. We look forward to the rematch when Clontarf visit Warrenpoint.
We arrived in Croke Park for the highlight of the trip! The players had their lunch in the hospitality area looking over Hill 16 and the perfect pitch – the main topic of chat among the Super Blues was how and when can we play football on the pitch! Once we had eaten our fill we had our own private behind the scenes tour of the magnificent stadium, which included doing a warm up session in the warm up area prior to running out the tunnel to the pitch followed by lifting Sam Maguire! The tour ended in the museum where the players and the big kids could demonstrate and test their skills in a number of games, and we also watched an interview with the clubs very own Barney Carr!
We arrived home safe and sound just after 5pm after a day which will live long in the memory of all those who attended and hopefully will inspire the young blues so that one day they will play football on that fantastic pitch!
