The summer hurling/camogie week was run in conjunction with the Newry, Mourne & Down District Council, came to a close on Friday afternoon. With over sixty children from ages six to sixteen in attendance each day the standard of coaching available was second to none.
The highlight of the week was Thursday when Paudie O’Neill, Chairman of the National Hurling Development Committee came to coach the children and also help coach the coaches. Paudie had an enjoyable day at the camp and he was really impressed with the standard of hurling and camogie on view and after the coaching he gave a very informative questions and answers session in the Mary Street club rooms to the many coaches that were in attendance. Afterwards club secretary Ann McCormack made a small presentation to Paudie by way of thanks and in closing the week Hurling chairman Damien McConville gave thanks to all the club coaches and staff that helped out throughout the week from first aid to registration and to the guest coaches Karl Keating, Kevin Hinphey, Ryan Gaffney and Paudie O’Neill whose attendance helped to make the week a success and a special mention was given to the coach education element of the week.
