Manager Niall McAleenan and the crowds in Pairc Liam Ui Ir couldn’t have asked for a better start from the home side on Friday night past when they took on Castlewellan in round 3 of the ACFL.  The senior footballers started the game very brightly against the current league champions and went into a four point unanswered lead before Castlewellan got on the score sheet through the very influential Kevin Duffin.

There was some quality football which was entertaining for even the neutral gael with fine displays of football from both sides. The game was played at a fast and attacking pace which saw both teams adapt the, “you attack and we attack,” style of play. Best for the blues was goalkeeper Conor D’Arcy who came to the rescue of the seasiders on three separate occasions when he came out on top on three one on ones in his own goal mouth.

Castlewellan started the second half very well and deserved their quick and precisely taken goal. The home side had three definite chances to score goals of their own but were denied by the Town goalie. Scores were exchanged between the teams but the blues ran out of time to get a point out of the game where a draw probably would of been a fair result.

Next up for the seniors is County Champions Kilcoo away on Friday night.
