Saval defeated Cumann Pheadair Naofa Senior Footballers in the final game of the O’Neills Division One All-County League, on a fine autumnal Saturday afternoon, 8 October. Saval raced into an early lead hitting four superb points without reply. James Heaney got the Blues off the mark after he was alert to a Ryan Mallon shot which cannoned off the crossbar. Saval were awarded a penalty which they duly despatched to the back of the Warrenpoint net. The pendulum swung in Cumann Pheadair Naofa’s favour as they hit four unanswered points. Saval hit the net once more and quickly followed with another point to stretch their advantage to six. Warrenpoint scored two nice points before the interval to leave the scoreline, Saval 2-5, Warrenpoint 0-7.

Ryan Mallon and Ciaran McCartan chipped over early scores in the second half for the Blues to cut the deficit to just two.  Aaron Magee curled a fine effort over the black spot for the Seasiders either side of two Saval scores. This was followed moments later with a Jamie Grant goal which he coolly slotted to the bottom right corner of the net to square the match.  However, at this point Saval powered on to hit six points without reply in a dominant period. Paul Traynor executed a nice point before Saval rounded off the scoring with another score. The full time score read, Saval 2-14, Warrenpoint 1-11.

The Club would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to manager Bernie Ruane and his team of Declan Mussen, Sean Cunningham, Sean Boylan and Eamon Connolly for their huge commitment and hard work with the Senior Team which has overseen great improvement in this young team. We look forward to next year where we can hopefully build on the solid foundations of recent years.
