Warrenpoint reserves travelled to mayobridge on Saturday 27 August to take on killkoo in the PRFC Semi Final. The game was tight form the word go but Kilcoo’s ruthlessness and experience in the first half meant they went in at the break with a faltering five point lead.
However the motivational words of Warrenpoint management at half time got the troops rallying as the point came out flying. Changes were made and the experience of David OConnor and Jamie Grant helped the point press and it was a combination of passes between the two and an assist from David O’Conor that lead to Jason Sloan putting the ball in the onion bag to make it a one point game in the dying minutes. Kilcoo then scored two late frees to take their place in the final despite the gallant Warrenpoint revival in the 2nd half. Good on the day were, mark Burke, Adam Lynch, Davy walker, Jason Sloan and man of the match performance from young Aaron Darcy. It felt more like the point lost the game rather than kilkoo wining it and a bit more composure in front of goal would have made it a total different story but it just wasn’t our day.
It was very encouraging to see a lot of cultured performances from the younger players and only positives should be taken from this game. The team, management and supporters can hold their heads high and be proud of their achievements this year and use it to push on next year.
