The pointer group youth leadership course is now almost half way through their 10 week training course and the group of 26 boys and girls had a special visit this week from hurling manager Conor Keenan and wife Raquel Keenan. Conor talked to the group about how he had started volunteering through VSO and continued volunteering with Cumann Pheadair Naofa when he moved to Warrenpoint. Indeed it was through his volunteering that he met his lovely wife Raquel!
Raquel works with the ‘Volunteer Now’ organisation and she talked to the group about some exciting opportunities that are coming up in Warrenpoint in association with the ‘Blues in the Bay’ festival, to organise two youth events over the weekend of the Blues festival, 25-30th May. Raquel is hosting an open night this Wednesday 2nd March at 6pm in the Magnet Young Adult Center, Hill Street, Newry for all potential volunteers and any young person aged 14-25 is welcome to attend even if you are not involved in Pointer group.
Sincere thanks to Conor and Raquel for visiting the group, you are both great role models for our young people.
