The senior footballers opened their 2019 ACFL campaign on Thursday night past in a much anticipated local derby against Rostrevor in a very wet Petit Park. On what can only be described as ‘very poor’ weather conditions the big crowds who gathered were waiting in anticipation of the match being called off. However full time was played and the reds, who were starting their centenary celebrations ran out as eventual winners on a score line of 0.09 to 0.06. It was point for point between the two teams battling in muddy conditions, however in  the second half it was Rostrevor who made the most of the brief dry spell and moved the ball quicker to open up their lead. Next up for Niall’s men is Ballyholland on Friday in the first home fixture followed by another local derby against local rivals Burren.
