Venue: Moygannon, Warrenpoint

Match Summary: As a prelude to the senior match that came later in the evening, Cumann Pheadair Naofa U16s welcomed an East Belfast 2nd team, on a warm & sunny evening at Moygannon. With East Belfast being a new club, there was perhaps a little apprehension amongst the Blues, as they were unsure of exactly what they were about to face. As soon as the match started, one thing that certainly became clear, was the determination of the visiting team. On a large pitch, in warm conditions & playing 13 a side, all the ladies put in a good shift & provided the many spectators with a match that should live long in the memory.

The day was very much about taking part. The final score was not recorded. The final score did not matter. Well done to those who did score, well done to those who made a pass that created a score, well done to those who blocked a score. Well done to those who turned out for their club & tried their hardest.

One score that should be mentioned is the second half goal scored by East Belfast’s Brogin. After her initial shot was well saved by Cara Bradley, Brogin followed up by rifling the ball into the roof of the net to get the first ever goal for East Belfast seconds.

The skills will develop over time, but without doubt the determination & desire to play are already present in the East Belfast ladies.

Teams: Cumann Pheadair Naofa vs Mayobridge

Venue: Mayobridge

Mayobridge was the venue for the ‘Point Girls third match of the season. Having lost the previous two games, the Blues definitely brought their ‘A Game’ tonight.

Emilie Kane got the girls up and running with a long range free which found the back of the net. Mayobridge replied with a great point but the Warrenpoint girls finished much stronger with points from Rachel Craven, Emilie Kane and a brace from the lively Lucy Elmore, left the half time score 0-1 to 1-04.

In the second half the ‘Point girls kept the pressure on their opponents. With Teagan Carvill and Katie Poland dominating the midfield, they were the catalyst for the second half scores. Lucy Elmore bagged a further goal and four points in the second half to finish with a tally of
1-06. Katie Poland also got herself on the scoresheet with a fine point of her own. Mayobridge didn’t give up and finished strong with two points of their own leaving the full time score;

Mayobridge 0-03 Cumann Pheadair Naofa 2-09

Hollie Rice excelled in nets in the second half, while Katie Quinn, Grace Lunny and Rachel Craven were excellent in defence with some great tackles and blocks.
