Cumann Pheadair Naofa Senior Footballers recorded a 4-14 to 3-06 win over Glenn John Martin’s on Saturday 14th October. The match was played in Páirc Liam Uí Ír on a fine, autumnal afternoon; perfect conditions for football.

Warrenpoint raced out of the blocks, with 2-03 registered on the scoreboard before Glenn opened their account, with the goals coming from Jamie Grant and captain, Ryan Boyle. Jack McCartan was unlucky not to find the net for Glenn after an impressive solo run as his shot was deflected over the crossbar by Conor D’Arcy for a point. Donagh McAleenan and Frank Aiken extended the Seasiders’ advantage to ten points, before defender Christy Carr flicked the ball past the Glenn goalkeeper for the Blues’ third goal. This came at a cost, however, as Christy shipped a heavy knock in an accidental collision with the on-rushing keeper, requiring five stitches. We wish him and the Glenn goalkeeper a speedy recovery. Frank Aiken added another, but it was Glenn who were to have the last say of the half with two points, to leave the score line reading; Cumann Pheadair Naofa 3-06; Glenn 0-03.

The opening ten minutes of the second half saw good, open football with each side registering two points. Glenn were awarded a penalty which was coolly despatched by County Under-21 Captain Ronan
Millar. Warrenpoint responded well with four points on the bounce, to stretch their lead to thirteen points. Two quick-fire goals from Glenn, highlighted their refusal to give up, however, it was Warrenpoint who finished the stronger, pointing three times to Glenn’s one point, in the closing minutes. The final score read, Cumann Pheadair Naofa 4-14; Glenn 3-06.

The Blues’ can be pleased with an excellent team performance, with Caolan McLoughlin and Donagh McAleenan, who finished the game with 0-05 to his name, excelling individually.  The result leaves Cumann Pheadair Naofa second in the table on twenty-seven points, two points behind Castlewellan.
