Cumann Pheadaír Naofa 9-10 V Ballyvarley 2-4
The seniors travelled to the parish of Aghaderg on Monday and had a convincing win over Ballyvarley. This game was effectively over after the first 30 minutes with the blues leading by a massive twenty-four points. The opening goal from Mathew Teague which was quickly followed by a hattrick of goals from John O’Kane in a three-minute period set the scene for the home side. The direct fast ball into Teague and Joker was giving Ballyvarley far too many headaches sa they found the Warrenpoint men unstoppable when in possession. In defense, the visitors had Tom Daly, Antoin Magill, Jason Grey & Feargal Murphy on top of their game and they confidently swept the sliotar back up the field to put further distress on the red & white defense. With the half quickly approaching a fourth goal from Joker, two from James O’Hare and one from Cathal McGivern ensured that Cumann Pheadaír Naofa had an insurmountable lead going into half time 8-4 to 1-1.
With Gerry O’Neill unable to attend it was down to the backroom team to make changes on the line to give the hard-working players a rest for the next thirty minutes. The second half saw a slight change of fortune for Ballyvarley as they started to challenge their markers more and close them down quicker as they tacked on a further 1-3 in response to Cumann Pheadaír Naofa 1-6.
Again, Joker punished some slack marking to strike for his five and final goal of the evening along with some pointed frees.
On Monday Cumann Pheadaír Naofa are at home to Castlewellan in what should be an entertaining game of hurling, the Town will be looking to reverse the result of last month when Cumann Pheadaír Naofa opened their league with an away win to Castlewellan.
