For the forth successive year, under the guidance of U-6 football manager Paul McClorey, Cumann Pheadair Naofa hosted a memorable U-6 Gaelic Football Tournament at Pairc Liam Uí Ír on Sunday 11 September 2016.  The aim of the tournament, which attracted teams from Saval, Glenn, Rostrevor, Burren and Clonduff and host club Warrenpoint, was to promote enjoyment, fair play and football for all.  The Tournament games were played using the Go  Games principles and the result was a very friendly family fun day atmosphere, where inclusiveness and participation were the core values.  Conrad Madden, Chairman of the Football Committee congratulated the participating teams, their mentors, their parents and the CPN club members who organized the event, on the tremendous success of the tournament, which was played in ideal weather conditions.

Club Hurling coaches learn from the best!

With Tipperary still in the throes of celebration, two Tipperary men, who over the last few years have been inspirational in last week’s Liam McCarthy success, took time out to visit the heart of County Down to take a Hurling Coach Development Forum for the club Hurling Coaches of the county in the splendid facilities of St Patrick’s Grammar School Downpatrick.
Proceedings were opened by Down Games Development Manager Conor O’Toole before handing over to the headline guests Paudie O’Neill, Chairman of the National GAA Hurling Development Committee and Eamonn O’Shea, former Tipperary hurler and manager who took a coaching session with coaches from all four corners of the county, an initiative that had been driven by our very own club member and current senior player Tom Daly in his role as County Hurling Officer.
After a day that involved both indoor and outdoor sessions with the Down U16 Development Squad, County chairman Sean Rooney, in closing thanked both Eamonn and Paudie for making the long track north to Downpatrick and echoed the County Boards support of such a great initiative. With over thirty coaches in attendance from the thirteen Hurling club in Down, there were no less than nine members from Cumann Pheadaír Naofa that were in attendance, a real credit to the positive steps in promoting hurling within the club and Warrenpoint area.
