Cumann na nÓg, the Irish language youth drama section of Cumann Pheadair Naofa took part in this year ’s Féile Scoil Dramaíochta held in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre Newry on Friday the 10 March. Seven plays were performed, six of them by local schools and ‘An Gadaí’ (The Thief) a dramatisation of the short story written by Pádraig Pearse, was performed by Cumann na nÓg Warrenpoint. The adjudicator was Máire Zepf a children’s author from Holywood Co. Down . The adjudicator was full of praise for the Cumann na nÓg play and commented on the fact that they had managed to create some wonderful moments on the stage.

Éanna Carr who played An Gadaí was given particular praise by Máire Zepf for his efforts and he went on to receive the award for the Best Actor of the Féile. This is Éanna’s second such award having won the award in 2008 playing ‘Bearnaí Beach’ in the Cumann na nÓg production of ‘Gairdín an tSonais.’

The big reward for Cumann na nÓg was that they won one of the four nominations to go on to the Ulster Finals of the Féile Scoil Dramaíochta to be held in Armagh later in the month. The winner of the Best Production of the Féile went to Bunscoil Naomh Prionsias, Lurgan.
