Cumann Pheadair Naofa travelled to Kilcoo on Friday night after 2 frustrating narrow defeats to Downpatrick and Castlewellan.
Under the guidance of Manager Niall McAleenan Cumann Pheadair Naofa wished to get their season back on track with a win against current County Champions and last years league runners up Kilcoo.
The game was played under poor lighting and it was the Kilcoo men that got proceedings underway with a 0-04 to 0-01 lead with Ross McGarry opening the scoring for the Warrenpoint men. Ryan Magee notched another score for the point men following a well won turnover in the middle third.
Aaron Joe Magee took the point men within 3 with a superb score from 25 metres out.
Kilcoo managed to come back at the Point men edging further in front, looking the sharper and hungrier for the ball at each break and play. Minutes later a super pass from Ryan Boyle played in Aaron Joe Magee who smashed the ball into the back of the net to leave the Point seven adrift from the Kilcoo men going into the break.
Kilcoo came out fighting again in the second half, their experience in how to rattle a team came into play in a big way within the first 5 minutes but Cumann Pheadair Naofa managed to open the scoring with a point from Aaron joe Magee. Kilcoo managed to dominate each exchange and kept 7 points between themselves and Warrenpoint throughout the second half, with score from Ross McGarry and Aaron Joe Magee keeping the Point in contention. Ross McGarry managed to pip over 2 scores from play in the last 10 minutes but Kilcoo’s dominance and experience paid off for them as they capitalised on an error in communication and pulled a goal back and followed this up with a final score to close out the game as winners at 1-08 to 1-20.
Next up for Warrenpoint is a Home tie with Mayobridge this coming Friday at Pairc Liam Ui Ir at 7:30pm.
