The U14 boys are competing in the South Down U14A competition, this stage of the competition is on a “round robin” format, the two other teams in the group are Clonduff and Ballyholland. The young blues travelled to Ballyholland last Monday evening to play their first match in this campaign.
It was a perfect evening for football and a large crowd had turned up to support both sides. Ballyholland had already played, and been beaten by, Clonduff in their first group match and it was evident from the start that they did not intend losing two in a row.
In the early stages of the game both sides were fairly evenly matched and they exchanged scores in the first half of a keenly contested match. Warrenpoint, however, were understrength as several players were on holidays and their absence was starting to show as, despite the best efforts of the boys on the pitch, Ballyholland began to dominate the game.
As is so often the case in Juvenille football the final scoreline does not reflect the competitive nature of the match as late goals are conceded and tiredness leads to conceded frees and penalties, this was certainly the case in this game as it finished 6.09 to 2.09 in Ballyhollands favour. Next up is a home match to Clonduff.
