Down GAA are pleased to announce the appointment of Cork native Thomas Daly to the Down Hurling Officer position. He will look at hurling on the County Management Committee and wish him well on his appointment.

On his appointment, Thomas commented’, I’m looking forward to assisting in the consolidation and development of hurling throughout Down. When I moved here, I joined St Peters, Warrenpoint and seen at 1st hand the great work that goes on behind the scenes by the dedicated hurling people, who receive great support from past and present Club Chairpersons and Secretaries. I have joined a dedicated Down GAA team who have been very helpful so far and will be supported by the dedicated members of the Down Hurling Development Committee formed in 2015. We will initially focus on improving the number of meaningful games, the promotion of hurling at both County and Club levels, and additional Games and Coaching Development throughout the County. Its encouraging to see the likes of Carryduff, O’Rahily’s and Newry Shamrocks competing with the Ards Clubs for the Minor Championship and have been impressed with the standard of hurling at all grades. I look forward to the 2016 season at both Inter-county and Club levels. Promotion to Division 2A would give a boost facing into the Christy Ring and Ulster Championships.

The club completion formation and fixtures are currently getting finalised and will be released over the coming days.  The Hurling Development Committee will be holding there first meeting with Clubs this Wednesday night (2nd March).
