The Addison’s Fundraising Day and Afternoon Tea in memory of the late Shane Nicholl, aged 11, who tragically died from Addison’s disease on 21 January of this year took place on Saturday 11 June. Shane’s extended family have close associations with Cumann Pheadair Naofa, and the club organised the fundraising event which consisted of a flag day from 9am until 5pm in the town centre. The main focus of the of the afternoon tea party in the clubrooms was the launch of the new club jersey which bears the Addisons Support Group Logo. Marty Clarke, local Gael, AFL Football star and fellow Addisons suffer attended to launch the new jersey. The fundraiser was also supported by Addison’s Ireland Chairperson Linda Grealy and committee member Rachel Bracken. Shane’s parents Clare and Mark Nicholl, their sons Conor, Jamie and Callum and the extended Shannon and Nicholl families were also be present.
The clubrooms were packed to capacity and the patrons enjoyed afternoon tea. Special thanks were exteneded to Fiona Mc Givern who made a bespoke cake , which carried the logo of the Addisons’ Disease Support Group for the occasion. The funds of the day are all being donated to Addisons Disease in memory of Shane and Mark Nicholl addressed those in attendance thanking them for their generosity. Club Chairman Eugene Gallagher said the support of the local people, the community and the GAA in the area was, as always, paramount to this day and the funds raised were a credit to the community. On the day Marty Clarke spoke about his delight at being asked to become involved in the event and his admiration for Cumann Pheadair Naofa in supporting local charities.
