Warrenpoint u14 ladies played their opening game of the championship away to Ballymartin on Sunday afternoon. In perfect footballing weather, it was the opposition who took the lead, going in at half time 2.04 to 1.06 in front. The game remained in the balance for a lot of the second half, as both teams fought hard to break away and gain any sort of momentum. With 15 minutes remaining, only 2 points separated the sides with the Blues crawling into a lead of 2.09 to 3.04.
The remaining quarter however saw Cumann Pheadair Naofa get to grips with the game and take full advantage of scoring opportunities. Some outstanding defensive work from all 15 in blue kept Ballymartin frustrated as they tried to make headway on the scoreboard. At the other end, our forward play and attacking options reaped reward as we pressed home to go in at the final whistle on a scoreline 7.13 to 3.05. An excellent win considering how tough Ballymartin were for a good 3/4 of the game. Well done to all the girls for their effort and hard work.
