Date: 31st March – 7:00pm
Teams: Cumann Pheadair Naofa vs Rostrevor
Match Summary: The U18 ladies in blue, faced close neighbours Rostrevor at Milltown, in their opening league encounter, on a rathe chilly Thursday evening. The visitors were quickly into their stride & rattled in a couple of goals early in the first half. Warrenpoint were a little slower to get going, but once they did, they displayed some excellent fluid play, with direct running & some slick passing. The points started to come regularly for Warrenpoint, with Rostrevor limited to the occasional counterattack. The rest of the first half followed in this vein, with the home side heading into half-time with a comfortable lead.
The Rostrevor coaches did their work well at the half-time break, as the visitors ramped up the pressure & started chipping away at the deficit. Most of the play was in the Warrenpoint half of the field, as the gap between the two teams gradually reduced. The blues managed to relieve some of the pressure by taking regular points, but were still outscored by Rostrevor, during this period of play. With nerves frayed, as the point deficit was reduced to two, the referee’s whistle finally came to the rescue of Warrenpoint, the blues holding on for the victory.
It was an excellent game, played in good spirits. Kudos to both sets of players, for the skills that were on display & the effort & determination that went into producing a fine example of ladies’ Gaelic football.
Well done ladies!
Final score: Cumann Pheadair Naofa 2-14 (20) Rostrevor 4-6 (18)
