Age Group: U16 Ladies
Date: 16th August – 12:00pm
Teams: Mayobridge vs Cumann Pheadair Naofa
Venue: Mayobridge
Competition: Warm-up match
The Blues travelled the short distance to Mayobridge, for the second of their warm-up games on Sunday afternoon. With the last scheduled match called off, it had been a while since the ladies had an outing together, so they were keen to get going.
Mayobridge started much the stronger & rattled in a goal & a point inside the first 5 minutes, with Warrenpoint’s only reply being a point from Katie Howlett. The home side continued to apply pressure & took another couple of points. After the water break, the Blues seemed to click into gear & got a number of quick fire scores with a goal from Lia Rice & points from Anna Craven & Enya Quinn. The Blues headed into half time with a 2 point lead.
Mayobridge were certainly not done though & came out the stronger into the second half, getting a goal & a flurry of points to gain a comfortable lead. The Warrenpoint ladies arguably had the better of the second half in terms of possession, with good attacking running from the likes of Erin Carr, Anna Craven, Katie Howlett & Sydney Barnett. The defensive unit stood strong & repelled further Mayobridge attacks, with Cara Bradley putting in another good performance between the sticks, well supported by the full back & half back lines. The Blues were just unable to convert their good possession to scores, despite spending considerable time inside the home 21, the only further scores being a point each for Enya Quinn, Orlaith Breen & Lauren Quinn.
The home team ran out worthy winners in the end. Final score 2-9 to 1-7, for Mayobridge.
