Cumann Pheadaír Naofa 1-17
Castlewellan 0-6
The blues finished top of group A this afternoon in the last of the round Robin matches and will now more than likely face Ballela as runners up from Group B in the semi-final of the Junior Hurling championship.
Under bright, clear skies Tom Daly & Liam Boyle were under no illusions that any slip ups or indiscretion could cost them a place in the knockout rounds of this year’s junior championship. Having already won promotion into Div1 next season there was the small matter of ensuring a win over Castlewellan to attend to first.
A James O’Hare goal in the third minute was just the start the blues were looking for after Conor Keenan had opened the scoring in the opening minute, Castlewellan replied through two Shane Smyth frees. With the blues able to work the space in front of goal it meant the scoreboard was ticking over nicely. A series of John O’Kane scores over the next ten minutes, both from play and frees gave the blues a comfortable nine-point lead midway through the first half. Cumann Pheadaír Naofa continued to add scores as Tomas Magill, O’Hare and O’Kane increased their sides lead to eleven points. A few positional changes at half time enabled some of the subs a chance to stake a place in the next round. Points continued for the blues as Kevin McCullagh, Saran McElroy and more from O’Kane saw the blues finish the game with a fourteen-point cushion.
After the game County representative Liam Quinn presented the division 2 cup to team captains Matthew Teague & Conor Keenan.
