Big Turnout for the Under 6s
This Sunday morning we had close to 30 players lining out in matches against Rostrevor at the U6 level. 3 teams were fielded and there were great performances all round. Thank you to Rostrevor for the match and all parents and mentors for your support.
Shield Champions
Saturday was a great morning up in Ballyholland where our U8 Ogs showed big improvement on recent weeks and our Gaels won the shield. With 10 teams in the Ogs competition and 15 in the Gaels, the standard of competition across the board was very high and to see the team battle through with huge skill and determination was a pleasure to see. There was some great goalkeeping, tackling, catching and scoring. All areas are showing brilliant improvement. Please see our Facebook feed for some photos and videos of the celebrations.
As always, a big thank you to all mentors and parents for coming out and supporting the teams. It makes a massive different to the young blues to have that support.
Under 12s away to Aghaderg
On Sunday morning our U12 footballers made the journey to Aghaderg for what turned out to be an exceptionally competitive game of football. The young blues started the game in fantastic fashion and were a couple of scores up with only a few minutes on the clock. Aghaderg came more into the game after a slow start thanks to some big players around the middle third. With about 10 minutes remaining in the first half, the combination of an inexplicable referee decision (in sending a young point player to the line) and a player getting injured, the game swung towards Aghaderg. Despite these setbacks the Warrenpoint boys continued to play some exciting football.
Half time score Warrenpoint 1:04 Aghaderg 0:04.
The second half saw Warrenpoint continue to play the better football despite being a player down. As the half wore on Aghaderg came more into the game, as the Warrenpoint lads inevitably tired. In the last 7 minutes of the game Aghaderg scored 2 goals which was a massive blow to the young blues. In the end Aghaderg emerged victorious by a single point on a scoreline of 3:06 to Warrenpoint’s 2:08
The young blues can be very proud of their performance. Despite facing some difficult setbacks they were fantastic in their approach and attitude and where very unfortunate to lose out in the end by a solitary point.
