U8 v Saval
Sunday morning saw the U8s take on Saval in St. Marks. On a day that alternated between glorious sun and heavy showers, both teams showed great skill and determination in what were very entertaining games. Great to see this group develop consistently week on week. Thank you to the parents who came along and supported the teams.
Busy week for the U10s
On Wednesday the U10’s played Rostrevor in St.Marks. The young blues were split into two teams P5&P6, the coaches were delighted with how the boys played. A special mention to the P5 team who put in their best performance of the season so far.
On Saturday the U10 team played in the Daniel Andre tournament in Clonduff. The boys were split into two teams P6 & P5.
In the group stages the P5 boys played against Ballyholland, Clonduff and Carryduff. The boys improved in every game of the group stages and were ready to play Shamrocks in the quarter finals. In a close encounter the young blues played really well and won by a single point. In the semi-finals the boys faced Magherafelt, this was a fantastic match where the boys played with great skill and determination in what was their best performance of not only the tournament but the year! Unfortunately, the young blues lost by a single point.
The P6 team won every game in the group stage and finished top of their group and qualified for the cup competition. In the quarter finals the defeated Aughlisnafin and played Clonduff in the semi finals. Unfortunately the host club came out on top against the young blues.
The coaches were delighted with how the boys performed throughout the tournament.
U/16 Match Vs Bosco
Another Thursday night on the road for the boys U/16 team, and a trip to Newry City to play Bosco in Jack Mackin Park in the South Down league. In a tight 1st half Warrenpoint held a 1-05 to 1-00 lead and both teams had 9 wides each from very erratic shooting under pressure but credit to both back lines who were tackling like tigers and making it hard for either forward line to get an edge, Caoalan Freer`s run and goal being the highlight of the 1st half for the blues.
The second half progressed with the Bosco determined to cut the lead but they squandered many a chance that came their way and with the point raiding up the field to nip point after point we kept our noses in front at the end of the game. Full credit to all the lads especially the full back line of James Mc Kibben, Ben Lynch and Tiernan Burns who never folded under pressure and Niall Howlett who pulled off a string of saves to keep the blues in the game.
