U10 LGFA News
Sunday morning (23rd June) saw another brilliant morning for the young LGFA players of the club with a total of 32 players from the U10 panel travelling to Shamrocks, Newry. 17 of the P5 and P6 players played Shamrocks in 45 minutes of football while the P4s played a mini blitz on the other pitches. The effort and skill these older players showed was truly unreal. Brilliant progress being made.
Also, St. Peter’s fielded their first ever U8 LGFA team in a blitz. Playing against Shamrocks, Saval and Mayobridge. The Ógs and the Gael’s teams put on a brilliant display of football for such a young age in their first year playing. These players and the ones unable to attend are the future of the LGFA in the club. Thanks to Shamrocks for the invite and the families for the large support.
Busy Week for U12 Ladies
Monday evening (17th June) saw our young blues travelling to Ballymartin to play our latest round of the U12 League in beautiful sunshine. The girls certainly rose to the occasion! There was no stopping Sara – she was on that ball at every opportunity while Amy scored a beautiful goal. We have a new goalie in training, Kerri, who is showing amazing progress. All our girls played brilliantly, but unfortunately the win went to Ballymartin on this occasion.
The happy young blues then made the short trip to our neighbours Burren on Wednesday evening (19th June) to play the next round of the U12 League. As always, they gave their best showing huge improvement from the beginning of the season. Despite their best efforts, the win went to a strong Burren side, however, what a massive difference in the happy blues from when they last played Burren at home – their huge smiles say it all!
U16 Ladies back with a Vengeance!
Early on Sunday afternoon (23rd June), saw Droichead Pointe resume their U16 league fixtures following the exam break.
The Blues, keen to get back to business were in good form and physically fit. Playing with a strong wind at their backs, they took on the challenge of Kilcoo and maintained a steady attack which gave them a half time lead of 14 points.
Playing against the wind and with Kilcoo coming out of the blocks determined to correct the scoreboard, saw Droichead Pointe yield several scores from Kilcoo. The Blues however steadied themselves, intent on maintaining their half time lead, picked up their game and answered Kilcoo with several well taken scores. Kilcoo continued to exert an unyielding pressure right to the final whistle. However, Droichead Pointe had done enough to claim victory. Final score: Kilcoo 2-6 to Droichead Pointe 4-10.
Saturday 29/6/2018 at 12:30 will see Droichead Pointe meet Naoimh Martin, Monasterboice, Co-Louth in a friendly challenge match in Moygannon – come out and see the girls in action!!
