U12s Continue League Campaign
Our U12 girls had a great game playing host to Rostrevor in St Mark’s last Wednesday evening. At half-time both sides were even but a strong second half wind throughout the second half made a huge difference to the score line. Despite a rejuvenated team performance from playing Rostrevor six weeks ago, the visitors left victorious.
Both our U10 and U12 Ladies are looking forward to competing in our first joint U10/U12 LGFA Tournament next Sunday 9th June from 9am – 12 noon in St Marks.
U14 Ladies Strong Team Performance
The young U14 Ladies from Warrenpoint were back on home turf this week, facing a very different prospect from last time out. After two comfortable victories from their last couple of games, the Blues knew they were in for a sterner test, welcoming Carryduff to Milltown. The home team started strongly and were on the attack straight away, but were unable to turn early pressure, into early scores. The visitors then started to exert their own pressure and were rewarded with a goal and a couple of points. As it was such a warm afternoon, a water break was called midway through the first half. This gave the girls time to re-group and they came out fighting. A goal from Cliodhna Martin finally gave the girls some reward for their hard work, which was followed by a couple of points, again from Cliodhna. Despite the scores, the visitors were proving very strong opposition and went into half time with a comfortable lead.
The second half followed much the same pattern, with the visitors strong running giving Warrenpoint real difficulties. Excellent work in defence, from the Blues, kept the scores under control. Captain Cara Bradley and Vice-Captain Aimee Kelly truly led by example with their defensive performances in goal and at full back respectively. Following a particularly competitive period of play, which saw a red card for Carryduff, the home team with a numerical advantage managed to get a little more control and got a couple more points thanks to Sydney Barnett and Cliodhna Martin. However, the visitors just had too much of a lead and were able to see the game out. The ladies from Warrenpoint did themselves proud throughout the game, really taking the fight to a strong Carryduff outfit. Final score 1-5 to 3-9, in favour of Carryduff.
