Preparations for the 2019 playing season are well under way within Cumann Pheadair Naofa. Our Management teams and coaches have been busy completing the necessary Child Protection, Access NI, First Aid and Fundamental Level Coaching courses while our ladies’ teams (U10 – Senior) are currently participating in the new Athletic Development six-week training programme with growing numbers in attendance each week – a very promising start to 2019 for the Warrenpoint Ladies’ Football Section indeed! All new members are very welcome to join any of our teams – contact Noreen Kelly, Ladies Gaelic Administrator (07846392235) for more details.
U-10 LGFA Season 2019
The U-10 LGFA coaching team would like to welcome all new and existing players from Primary 4 to Primary 6 to come along and join this vibrant young football team. This will be our 2nd year as a team within the club and after last year’s brilliant season with an average of 20 players each session we believe we can improve on this.
With the experienced coaching team of Ciaran Rice, Annette Elmore, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Lisa O’ Loughlin and Brendan Rice (and hopefully more during the year) the girls will train twice each week starting in mid-March. These sessions will be on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Our aim is to coach the girls the fundamentals of LGFA which will prepare them for the older leagues from U-12 onwards. Our emphasis will be on skills, teamwork and equally important – having fun!!! With plenty of friendly games and blitzes during the year we know this will be a brilliant launching pad for these young girls in LGFA and other club activities.
U-12 LGFA Season 2019
The young girls from our U-12 LGFA team are now half way through their Athletic Development Programme and are thoroughly enjoying the sessions and coaching. We’re all really looking forward to getting the football boots on and taking our training sessions outdoors again soon. We have a great bunch of girls joining us this season from last year’s U-10s and of course not forgetting the four girls that we are still fortunate to have playing with us from last season for another year. The management team of Liz Power and the ever talented Aine Murphy will be preparing the girls for their first league match on April 3rd and would like to extend a warm welcome to any girls who would like to join our fantastic team this year!
U-14 LGFA Season 2019
In preparation for the 2019 season, which kicks off at the end March, an eight strong management team has been assembled to help guide the U14 ladies through the coming months. Senior Ladies’ player, Amy Freer, & Senior Men’s player, Aaron McBurney, should prove to be valuable additions to the management team and the young ladies will undoubtedly benefit from their experience. Alongside Amy and Aaron, a fantastic mix of experience, enthusiasm and energy is added, through the involvement of Maria Heatley, Paula Fegan, Aileen McAteer, Ann Barnett, Killian Quinn and Manager Mike Barnett.
The ladies are currently half-way through the club’s newly introduced Athletic Development Programme. Outdoor training is due to start next month, weather dependent and will move to twice weekly sessions, once the lighter evenings are upon us. With a full league campaign, followed by a Championship and hopefully a healthy sprinkling of challenge matches throughout the year, there will be plenty of Gaelic football for all the young ladies!
U-16 LGFA Season 2019
Work is well underway in preparation for the forthcoming U16 League and Championship season. The U16 girls have embraced the training schedule, delivered in line with the Athletic Development Programme under the close supervision of the mentors Paula Howlett, Mike Barnett and Killian Quinn. A veteran trio, complementing each other in terms of skill, knowledge and experience, this strong leadership, combined with the girls’ passion, enthusiasm and desire to excel, is a winning combination!
Following the success of last year’s amalgamation with Mayobridge GAC at U16 LGFA level, plans are afoot to renew this dynamic partnership once again, working alongside Mayobridge’s U16 Ladies’ Manager, Seán McElroy. With lots of competitive football and strengthening of existing and new friendships ahead, this U16 team has plenty to look forward to in the season ahead. All past and new players are still very welcome to join us!
