Our U12 Ladies finished off the season last week with a league match against Burren under floodlights on a beautiful balmy evening in St Mary’s Park. As expected the match was a very tough encounter from the outset. Our girls fought for every ball around the midfield and half back line with great determination and gusto driving forward at every opportunity and defending like tigers when needed. After a very sporting contest Burren ended up winners 4.6 to 2.4.
The management is extremely proud of the commitment, effort and determination displayed for the blue jersey, not only in this game but throughout the entire season. Our support along the side-line was just tremendous and spurred the girls on, particularly in the last ten minutes which was great to hear. Unfortunately, coach Liz Power, missed our last match due to her marathon training. The girls parting gift to Manager Paul McCllorey, was to soak him with all the extra water bottles they had brought along while also singing happy birthday. It was a very joyful end to our season.
This team has been blessed with absolute fun characters who have been a pleasure to coach. Speaking after the game, Manager Paul McClorey stated, “Even though a lot of results didn’t go our way the emphasis was always on fun and participation. We achieved the fun bit in spades thanks to the girls’ superb attitude. Special thanks to Liz and Aine for their help all year and, also Ciaran Rice U10 Manager, who let us join him for some of his training sessions. Special thanks to the parents for their support and, also Noreen Kelly, for her guidance and encouragement. These girls have some great days ahead of them on the pitch with the qualities that they have. They really have been a pleasure to coach and are a credit to their families. Hope they keep it up in the years ahead!”
