On Wednesday 8 August our U14 Ladies travelled to RGU Downpatrick, expecting a tough physical encounter, which is just what they got! Warrenpoint started brightly and were able to exert early pressure on the home side but were unable to convert the pressure into scores. Downpatrick’s physical style of play soon started to take effect and the loss of Anna Craven mid-way through the first half, due to receiving an injury following a collision, made the job all the more difficult. The home side made their dominance count and started taking scores regularly. It wasn’t until the end closing moments of the first half until the Blues were able to get a score on the board themselves.
Going into the second half, the Blues raised their game, in an attempt to compete with the physicality of Downpatrick. However, despite scoring a goal created by good team play and chalking up another point, the game was beyond them. This was a gutsy performance by the young ladies from Warrenpoint, who were still missing seven players due to holidays, against a strong Downpatrick team, with numbers to call upon.
Next up for the U14 Ladies is a home fixture vs Teconnaught on 26 August 2018
