St Peter’s Senior Ladies got their season off to a winning start last Thursday evening (5th April) at St. Michael’s, Mageralin, in the first round of the LGFA Junior League.
Being their first proper game together, the Warrenpoint ladies started nervously and struggled to assert themselves in the opening exchanges of the game. Having gone behind by three points and playing into a very strong wind, the girls steadied themselves and went in 1-03 to 0-03 ahead after a difficult first half.
In the second half and playing with the breeze, Cumann Pheadair Naofa quickly began to dominate a very physical St Michael’s side and stretched their lead to finish 3-12 to 1-05 winners.
After the game, joint managers, Ian Russell and David Rice, congratulated the team and expressed delight at the determination shown by all the girls in this truly historic game for our club. Although obviously happy with this first performance, both Ian and David stressed that there would be harder tests ahead and much work had still to be done.
The second round of the LGFA Junior League will be played in our very own Pairc Liam Ur Ir on Saturday 14th April at 7pm – all support for our Senior Ladies very welcome!
