Cumann Pheadair Naofa 1-13 vs Ballyholland 0-067
Pairc Liam Ui Ir was the venue for the first home fixture in over a month for the Warrenpoint men on Wednesday past. Ballyholland were coming off the back of a championship defeat to RGU Downpatrick after a replay, the same opposition who beat the Blues in the same competition. Both teams were playing their first game in the league post championship and seeking to shake of the hangover of that and continue to build on their league form.
Ballyholland were first to pull the trigger but hit the ball to the right and wide. From that point forward for the remaining of the first half the Point men took control of the game in each and every section of the pitch, points from Niall McGovern, Donagh McAleenan, Ross McGarry and Ryan Mallon saw there point men drift 9 points ahead at half time with little opposition from the Ballyholland men, who unfortunately never got out of the starting blocks.
The second half started with a score from Ballyholland both the the Point men bagged a goal and added to their already impressive tally.
The second half saw little extra from Ballyholland but an impressive performance and all round performance from the point men. They neutralised the defensive formation of the Ballyholland men either kicking scores from distance or breaking the defensive lines with darting runs.
In the end the point men held on and secured the win by ten points.
The win solidifies the Warrenpoint men in second place in the All County Football League Division one with seven games to go. Next up for the point men is Burren at home this coming Sunday in Pairc Liam Ui Ir, Moygannon at 3:00pm.
