Cumann Pheadaír Naofa 9-5 Kilclief 5-11
A thrilling encounter between these two evenly matched sides ended in a six point victory for Cumann Pheadaír Naofa. An early goal from Ben Lock opened the blues account, but Kilclief struck back with goals of their own to take the lead at a sunny Milltown on Friday evening. Chris Rooney’s side knew that if they could avoid defeat that next week’s game would guarantee that Cumann Pheadaír Naofa would reach a championship semi-final. Missing key players Matthew Duffy & Liam O’Connor the whole team raised their game with outstanding performance from Niall Furlong, Oisin Magone & Oisin Ruane. At Midfield the blues had a match winner in James Duggan, his contribution of 6-4 tells its own tail, along with Magone he was a constant threat whenever in possession.
Upfront Alfie McDonald worked hard and deservedly scored a goal in the second half. The lead exchanged several times in the closing 15 minutes and at one stage it looked as if the home side would could up short at the end, when Ben Lock plundered his second goal and was quickly followed by Duggan’s sixth.
Overall Warrenpoint had match winners in Oisin Magone, Oisin Ruane, Niall Furlong & James Duggan, with the general improvement in performance pleasing Chris Rooney going into the final round robin fixture next week against St Pats.
