Cumann Pheadair Naofa 3-15 vs An Riocht 1-13
Cumann Pheadair Naofa Footballers were back in action on Friday past vs An Riocht.
An Riocht had shook up the 2017 league with big wins over the likes of Kilcoo so expected themselves to claim the scalp of the Point Men at home in the Kingdom.
The Warrenpoint men going into the match shared 3rdplace with Burren, RGU Downpatrick, Clonduff, Mayobridge and Kilcoo on 10 points but the Point men with 4 wins behind them wanted to push forward and continue their fine run of form.
From the off the men in Blue enforced their game on the An Riocht men, moving the ball fast and attacking at pace. It was clear that the heat was making the game difficult for the An Riocht men as they were slow to react to each ball and the men in Blue let no ball go loose.
Scoring was opened on the night from DonaghMcAleenan who fired over 3 unaswered scores from play as the point raced into an early lead of 4 points with Aaron Magee converting also.
An Riocht managed to convert any Scoreable Free that came into their paths allowing them back into the game however a great break from defence saw the Point men find the net with a great move finished off by Ryan Boyle.
The Point men went into the break 5 points up but as this was a Home match the An Riocht men were not going to give in that easy. They managed to claw the game back to 3 points in the difference with a converted Penalty in the early stages of the second half however the Blues regrouped and managed to begin to pull away from the Kingdom – goals from Ryan Boyle and Jamie Grant. Points from on fire Donagh McAleenan and Aaron Darcy saw the Point men over the line safely by 10 points.
Next Thursday see’s the Point Men take on Bryansford in Newcastle on Thursday evening at 7:30pm where they stand the opportunity to push forward and cement their 3rd place position.
