Congratulations to our own club member Dermot Donnelly and the Down U17 Hurling side that have reached the All Ireland Final of the GAA Celtic Challenge. The Celtic Challenge is a competition for players, aged 16 and 17 years old, who are not participating in State Examinations during May and June 2017. 47 teams have participated in the competition.
Down came through their group stages having lost only to Antrim, whilst missing several players through injury and unavailability. Dermot is a member of the management setup within the team that has seen them progress through the preliminary and quarterfinal stages beating Westmeath, Cork City along the way. On Saturday Down beat East Waterford 2-17 to 1-12 in the semi-final of the Corn William Robinson in Abbotstown, co. Dublin and will now go on to play Dublin Plunketts in the final next week in Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow.
