Age Group: U14 Ladies
Date: 11th June 2017 – 12:30pm
Teams: Cumann Pheadair Naofa vs Kilcoo
Venue: Kilcoo
Match Summary: A trip away to Kilcoo, promised a hard workout for the U14 Ladies Blues and that certainly proved to be the case. A strong wind was blowing the length of the pitch & the ladies played into the wind for the first half. The initial 15 minutes looked promising, for a slightly under strength Warrenpoint, as they restricted Kilcoo to just two points. Despite the ladies have the lion’s share of possession though, they were unable to convert any of their chances. Just as it looked as if the first half would remain a tight affair, the weather showed that it had different ideas. The wind picked up & the clouds burst open. Conditions were so bad that even the Kilcoo senior men’s team, who were out training, were running for the sanctity of the clubrooms. With the conditions behind them Kilcoo made the most of it & scored 4 goals & 2 points, without reply, to take a healthy half time lead.
The sun shone in the second half & so did the Blues. This time having the wind behind them, the Ladies fought back & outscored Kilcoo in this period of play, showing some excellent support play & fighting spirit. Just as it looked as if the Blues might get within touching distance of Kilcoo, a couple of late goals, against the run of play, settled the nerves of what must have been an edgy Kilcoo side. Kilcoo eventually ran out winners by 6 – 4 to 3 – 2.
The last few weeks have seen a real improvement in the ladies all round play, keep on pushing ladies, your management team are proud of you! Upcoming Fixtures: Warrenpoint vs Clonduff 18 June 2017.
