South Down U14 Football League (Section 2A)
5th June 2017 – 7.30pm
Cumann Pheadair Naofa V Rostrevor
Pettit Park, Rostrevor
On a very wet Monday evening the U14 footballers continued their section 2A league campaign with a match in Pettit Park against Rostrevor. Coming on the back of a good win the previous week against Mayobridge the young blues were hoping to continue their winning ways and make it three wins out of three.
Rostrevor scored first with a well worked point from play, the lead was short lived with Conor Madden slotting one over in quick reply. Rostrevor then scored a goal but again their lead was short lived with the young blues raising the green flag through a well taken Jack Howlett goal. At this stage Warrenpoint players found their form and went on a free scoring spell with four more goals in the first half coming from four different players, C.Madden, J.Cole, D.Breen and D.Ruddy, Warrenpoint also managed six more points in the first half.
However, it wasn’t all one-way traffic with Rostrevor adding another two goals and four points before the interval. Leaving the half time score Rostrevor 3-05 to Warrnepoint’s 5-07. Despite the weather conditions Warrenpoint came out of the blocks flying, with a goal and a point from Jack Howlett and a goal from James Russell in the first five minutes of the second half. This completely took the wind out of Rostrevor’s sails.
In the last Fifteen minutes John Daly used all his permitted substitutes and when given the chance these young men rose to the occasion with Warrenpoint continuing to perform well across all sectors of the pitch.
The final score was Rostrevor 3-06 Warrenpoint 7-13. The large travelling support, who braved the weather conditions, once again recognised the great effort put in by the boys, greeting them with warm applause as they left the field. The next match is away, on Monday 12 June against Clonduff.
