Cumann Pheadair Naofa Footballers were back in action on Friday past vs Longstone.
This game had a great deal riding on it as both teams have had a stuttering start to the league so far.
Cumann Pheadair Naofa last game vs Ballyholland saw them defeated in a poor team performance so they were out to set the record straight against Longstone and get their season back up and running again.
The game saw the Warrenpoint men with a new look as some first team regulars out through injury. The Point men however began the game by completely dominating proceedings by maintaining possession and being very strong in the middle of the field. Aaron Magee impressing at number 8 having returned to fitness following a bad injury last year.
Scores from Niall Trainor, Aaron Magee, Franks Aiken saw the point men 6 points up to no score with 10 minutes to go.
An intercepted short kick out by Longstone saw them bag a goal and followed this up with a point to see them only 2 points adrift at half time, a score that did not reflect the game.
Longstone came out fighting in the second half and both teams got stuck into a real battle. Warrenpoint saw 3 goals chances nipped just wide from Aaron Magee and Aaron Joe Magee and late on a Penalty was saved by the Longstone keeper from Aaron Magee.
Both teams went into the last 3 mnutes of added time level but it was the steady boot and steely nerves of Anton Magill who secured victory with a finely struck point.
Cumann Pheadair Naofa now meet Glenn next Friday away from home in what again promises to be a dog fight, but the point men will be keen to push forward and build on their 6th place standing in the table.
