Cumann Pheadair Naofa was one of four coastal clubs throughout Ireland, along with Castlehaven, Bray and Achill GAA Clubs, selected to attend the launch of the RNLI/GAA Partnership which took place in Croke Park on Wednesday 10 March
The RNLI/GAA partnership is aimed at reducing the number of people who lose their lives through drowning in Ireland. The lifeboat charity and the GAA will work with clubs and communities to provide information and support through the “Respect the Water” campaign, which will run throughout the summer. Interestingly, there are 333 GAA Clubs in a 10km radius of the 46 RNLI lifeboat stations. The partnership will be supported through the GAA’s Healthy Clubs’ Initiative of which Cumann Pheadair Naofa is actively involved in promoting a range of healthy initiatives for all club members. In November past, Declan Doyle represented the club at the RNLI Training Headquarters in Poole and Declan will play a key role in the development of Cumann Pheadair Naofa’s involvement in the RNLI/GAA Partnership.
Club Secretary, Anne McCormack, who attended the launch, stated that the club were looking forward to promoting the RNLI/GAA Respect the Water campaign at a range of club activities and events.
