In advance of the Cumann Pheadair Naofa AGM which takes place in the Clubrooms, Mary Street on Tuesday 25 October at 7.30pm, Anne McCormack, dedicated and hardworking secretary in her first year, highlighted opportunities and challenges for Cumann Pheadair Naofa for the year ahead.
Anne noted that upon reading the reports, it is clearly evident that, “Cumann Pheadair Naofa is a vibrant Club with many volunteers contributing to daily Club life and the community where we live.” With the highest membership ever recorded, totalling 698 members, of which 399 of these are youth members, the potential for this Club to achieve, deliver and meet challenges, both on and off the field, is limitless.
Anne’s key focus of the report was the club successes both on and off the playing field and in her comprehensive report she noted that, “while our sub section reports eloquently detail events of the past year, it is often difficult to capture the emotions which accompany the events of the past year.” Mainly the sense of achievement of the Club retaining Division 1 senior football status for the next season, the U-16 All County Football Championship, the U-14 B Football Championship, the U-16 Hurling Championship Shield, retention of Premier Reserve Division 1 status, winning The Irish News Large Club of the Year Award, the retention of Club Maith Platinum to name just a few achievements.
The Secretary also humbly paid special thanks to all the Club volunteers who have given their energy, time, commitment, enthusiasm and expertise to the development of the Club over the past year. “Together we all play our part in making Cumann Pheadair Naofa the Club that it is, whether we serve on a committee, manage a team, assist with a team, help at matches, contribute to our Health and Well Being Project, manage our Club grounds, cater for visitors to our Club, wash Club jerseys, no matter how small the task, it is greatly appreciated.”
Anne ended her insiring and thought provoking report by saying, “our greatest contribution is to honour the Gaels of the past who left us this fine Club and to carry forward their work into the 21st Century and in years to come, to leave the Club a better place than we found it. If we achieve that, then we will have served our Club and our community well.”
