On Wednesday past the National GAA Healthy Club Project took center stage at the Health Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) conference at the Whitla hall in Queens University Belfast. This is an annual European conference looking at sports clubs for Health. GAA’s National Healthy Club Coordinator Aoife O’Brien was invited as a speaker to describe the GAA Healthy Club Project at a National level and how the GAA has placed health and well-being issues at the heart of the organisation. Cumann Pheadair Naofa were asked to give a practical example of the GAA’s ‘Recipes for Success’.
Katrina Kernan, the club Health and well -being officer said ” many of the delegates were from Europe and didn’t know much about the GAA but they were blown away by the work that going on in the GAA. We were asked to talk about our healthy eating projects, ‘Recipes for Success’ and the ‘Healthy cooking for families’. They enjoyed hearing whats going on at grassroots in our club. Castleblaney Faughs talked about their ‘Operation Transformation’ project which is now in its 6th year. Everyone enjoyed Conrad’s Video of ‘Recipes for Success’. The Chair seemed amazed that all this work is done by GAA volunteers at grass roots all over Ireland so once again thanks to Aisling McGivern and Ross McGarry for running the project in the summer.. and to Conrad for making the video.
